• Reviews around quality (4.46 of 5)

    OPPO BDP-103 Universal Disc Player (SACD / DVD-Audio / 3D Blu-ray)

    • Excellent picture quality for 2D, 3D and upscaling of other content.
    • It is super fast, has great features and great video quality
    • It plays scores of video and audio codecs - making the hassle of selecting only particular files to play - disappear.- Love dual HDMI outputs; one for the receiver, and one for the TV.- Excellent front panel display, with easy to read and convenient information on the source being played.- Quick menu loading times- Outstanding picture quality
    • But it quickly showed it was a VERY buggy unit and had awful build quality.
    • Well if you're spending a lot on your Home Theater and want a BD player with good build quality, why not
    • Fantastic picture quality.
    • This player is built solid with superb picture quality and the sound that runs through this player to my receiver is powerful
    • and I was concerned that the Oppo's video processor, which is HDMI v1.4 would not be compatible with the TV, but it is, and the video quality is a marked improvement over the Onkyo, producing better quality video in every format including from the Cable box
    • Oppo not just makes better picture but the sound is as good as picture quality
    • Not only is the Oppo an easier player to operate and takes considerably less time to go from loading a disc to watching it, it has far superior sound and picture quality.
    • Fabulous 3D Bluray player improves picture quality on blu ray , dvd and even cable by using its superior video processing
    • I haven't tested this player on my 55 inch TV, but given that blu rays are very clear anyway, if you are pairing this with a TV as opposed to a projector, you may end up paying a premium for the fast load times rather then strikingly better image quality.
    • Sound quality is terrible
    • (High quality gold CD's which played perfectly on my Samsung HD/Blu Ray combo player)
    • The BDP-95 of course sounds better but the BDP-103 audio quality is quite good to my Ayon Spirit III for this price point; however I have never listened a full day without freeze ups.
    • The audio processing is also excellent, although I imagine the analog stereo output of the 105 would be mind-blowing (that's the big difference between the two players and why you would pay $700 more), the 103 has excellent audio quality and you can always use hdmi or optical audio outputs to an external DAC or digital receiver
    • I saw some Oppo DVD players, I saw a very good image quality, but very similar to Sony and Panasonic
    • Excellent quality equipment
    • Quality is amazing, both build and picture/sound
    • I am confident that I am seeing the very best picture quality possible with the Oppo
    • Very nice Package!Inside you will find too, a secondary box with a grounded Power Cord, a 6-foot HDMI-Cable, a Wi-Fi dongle and excellent Remote Control (a fantastic build quality). The BDP-103 come with a black anodized aluminum front panel and navigation controls
    • I love the high quality of audio and video coming out from this blue ray player.
    • Excellent build quality especially compared to what other manufacturers offer
    • Quality from Oppo is impeccable
    • First, let me say, I'm sure the picture/audio quality is great
    • I next decided to try some DVDs to see if there were any redeeming qualities that could win me over at this point--not that I even watch many DVDs b/c I have long been spoiled by high definition video and uncompressed surround sound.
    • The combination provides wonderful picture quality.
    • The sound quality is excellent on this product
    • So at this point I established that with the 103 I lost no functionality that I had with the PS3 and gain better quality and more capability
    • If you plan to play DSD music through the HDMI cable be prepared that you can only do it through the second HDMI port, which has less good picture quality
    • if you think you ever watched BluRay at its best possible quality wait until you get one of this
    • Excellent picture quality, but not significantly better than a PS3.It decodes everything, which the PS3 can not do
    • It certainly grew in me: to the point where my inhibitions about paying $500 for a Blu-Ray player were overcome by a distinct need for much improved quality in my viewing experience.
    • Very good player with fantastic sound quality
    • With the OPPO BDP-103, it starts with top build quality, a quality that you just won't get from other blu ray players selling under $500.Just one problem to report, my BDP stop working last night.
    • I'm happy with my purchase the upscale quality of dvd's is amazing.
    • So you can chose: good picture or good sound quality
    • I purchased it because I read that the player has great reviews, that the quality is so much better and money well spend
    • Sound and picture quality is outstanding
    • Quality throughout and superb video processor along with many settings make the BDP-103 the best BD player I've ever used.
    • The audio section is very sweet too, once I got over the awesome video quality I finally evaluated this unit in my bedroom, and in my living room as well.
    • Free, frequent firmware upgrades add features like the recently introduced capability to play dsd and dsf direct stream digital downloads (not just SACD discs which share the same format). If you want exceptional picture, audio quality, and a component with outstanding quality and customer service in this price range, you absolutely can't go wrong with this player.
    • so in a mix feeling right now..to keep it or return it...unless I am missing some magic settings which would improve the picture quality drastically...
    • Top quality high end audio at a real price.
    • From the opening of the box this unit is top quality!
    • This Oppo does load fast and may have slightly better video quality when playing a standard DVD, but even that is questionable and hard to determine for sure
    • this unit is amazing quality
    • Sound quality for CD is better through my dedicated D/A converter (DAC-2, $1499) which the player is used as a transport only
    • Sound quality is also extraordinary
    • Quality!Superior Sound!I had this blu ray player for 6 months now & I will never buy any other brand
    • If you really insist on the highest quality audio and video available, you might check out the 105
    • Now Oppo has released the BDP-103 which by everything I read was a high-end player with outstanding picture quality and features.
    • Sound quality is superb
    • Build is excellent solid high quality
    • Fantastic Build Quality, my wife thinks Im crazy to spend this much on a blu-ray player, but is shocked when I put in old dvds and they are upscaled to 1080p
    • multiple function information display - Dolby & DTS HD display, repeat function, etc.6. play MP4 video file from USB port is also convenient - enjoy high quality
    • Audio quality is stunning.
    • 3D are stellar quality.
    • Just "Top Quality" all the way!
    • It loads amazingly quickly and produces the best quality picture and 7:1 sound I have ever experienced
    • Every touch screams quality craftsmanship, from the heavy but unencumbered weight distribution and quiet, mechanically perfect drive tray to the thick, informative user manual
    • I can see and hear the superior picture and audio quality, it is so well made
    • Good to know they still make great quality products.
    • I listen to Pandora a lot and the sound quality is amazing; better than when I play it through my PC, or even in my Car
    • I was about to just dump Oppo in the "bose" category and sign their product off as another high priced item whose quality can be had or exceeded by much cheaper competing units
    • Yes, the cost of the OPPO is significantly higher: but it seems to me we were lulled into thinking that because of the improved quality of the Blu-ray format over DVD that we wouldn't notice the irritating quirks of the (much) less than perfect Blu-ray hardware when it first came out
    • I've always appreciated the quality of that disc, both video and music, but through the Oppo it was that much better, particularly on the music side
    • Excellent, solid build quality.
    • The Marvell QDEO video chip is capable of producing extraordinary image quality and upscaling results
    • The build quality and packaging is top of the line (even the instruction book!).
    • I'm sure most blu-ray players offer exceptional quality in this regard, but I can definitely say that this is the fastest loading blu-ray player I've ever owned (and I have 4 of them)
    • Reading review after review, I can see that there is a dearth of quality material being marketed, and what exists has spotty quality (much of it perhaps mixed by the folks who did the initial 4 or 5 tinny, treble heavy, screechy CDs for the Beatles).PLEASE HELP your fellow aficionados out
    • This unit is far more capable than what our family will use it for; I feel a little ashamed but is does the one thing we wanted, which was provide lighting speed access to Netflix, VuDu, Etc. - and with incredible quality
    • and I have very little experience; however, the sound quality when playing a regular dvd movie on the Oppo is much better than it was from my previous dvd player.
    • Used lossess format but the quality over USB or Ethernet is clearly inferior to disc itself.
    • Good quality!
    • I noticed a obvious and significant difference immediately in sound and picture quality! excellent unit
    • But if you just want awesome picture quality and superb sound, save some money and get the BDP-103 model
    • Interestingly, the Netflix application on the player produces far better picture quality than that within the plasma set itself.
    • Sound is clear along with great picture quality
    • Again, just like the OPPO BMP-93, the quality of the construction of this unit is first rate
    • Great sound quality, plenty of customizable features.
    • The build quality, blu-ray video/audio quality, DVD upscaling, Netflix streaming video/audio quality are superb and far superior to the SONY PS3 and all other blu-ray players on the market
    • The build quality and picture quality of the OPPO BDP-103 are outstanding and a great match for my new Sharp Aquos 60" LED HDTV
    • After reading other one star reviews, I am even more disappointed in purchasing from Oppodigital; for I feel that the Oppo quality is only a myth
    • I first tried my old Minority Report DVD, one that for me, has always has notoriously horrible, dark, grainy video quality.
    • can that do it all and has a solid performance and great built quality.
    • Overall, it's an amazing player with exceptional picture and sound quality that will not disappoint.
    • Beautiful picture quality exceptional sound quality, built like a freaking tank
    • The build quality is really solid.
    • While most had very good to excellent bluray/DVD picture quality, there was always at least one issue to work around.
    • Picture quality is first rate regardless which option you choose, and sound quality is outstanding for music listening
    • Excellent build quality.
    • Great product have this hooked up to my home theater system and man is the picture quality great could not of asked for a better DVD
    • I use it mainly as a Blu-ray player which delivers great picture quality
    • so I recommend you have a HDMI input/output receiver for the best quality sound
    • A build quality rarely seen anymore, easy to set up, reference quality picture and sound.
    • GOOD QUALITY
    • I have an extensive dvd collection, and really wanted the best quality possible
    • I had just configured the very extensive professional ISP video settings on my LG 47LH90 LED tv for optimum video quality, so hopefully the combination of this and the Oppo would deliver unparalleled picture quality--for an LED LCD tv, of course
    • The sound is also notably better than either my previous DVD player (an inexpensive Zenith), and a Toshiba DR550 DVD recorder, the latter of which produces pretty good quality audio/video
    • I hope I have better luck, as I do love the quality of this BDP.
    • that's immersive and realistic with amazing depth perception, provided you utilize the player the way it was designed, by running the HDMI cable using the split AV settings on HDMI 1 out to your TV or projector (which is not pragmatic if you want to run both HDMI cables to your receiver so that you can enjoy perfect picture quality on your screen – in which case, you have to use the dual screen setting and run HDMI 1 to your receiver and program your Logitech remote to recognize that as watch movie, which means your sound system will suffer when watching movies or MTV, and HDMI 2 out to your receiver and program your remote to recognize that as listen to music; when you program your system using these settings, the sound coming from the Oppo for both movies and MTV is sweet, transparent and full of clarity, punch and dynamism and the bass is taut but is not full bodied and lacks warmth, and results in less well distinguished and realistic SFX as channelled to your rear speakers
    • Panasonic quality in BLue ray players for the price they charge is amazing
    • The overall quality of the product seem very nice
    • This product screams "Quality", "solid" from the minute you open the box and touch the product
    • It's aesthetically pleasing and just feels like it was built with quality and pride; the remote is loaded with features and it too feels of great quality
    • Sure it costs a little more -but you are getting top notch Quality
    • Have not tried all the features, but the quality of the picture in 2&3D is excellent
    • I purchased this unit having had a positive experience with a previous generation (pre Blu-Ray) OPPO DVD player which offerred excellent picture quality
    • It screams quality from the moment you open the box
    • Excellent quality and intelligent design containing new features
    • Audio quality is excellent from both HDMI and analog outputs
    • Great picture and sound quality when properly set up and run through hd components
    • Oppo 103 and 104 provide same excellent picture quality, the extra features should decide which one to go for
    • Exceptionally versatile, exceptional quality.
    • This player is well worth the cost and a good value for the excellent design and quality
    • OPPO 103 give me the best quality picture and pure sounds
    • Solid build quality, very quiet, and faster than any other player I've owned
    • Highly recommend for anyone looking for top quality audio and high-end quality blu ray player at a great price.
    • No more freezing, stopping to reload and downgrade image quality.
    • Simple fact is that it does not play all discs, the quality is not better than your average player and I can't return it because I noticed it too late per Amazon return policy
    • Although the BDP-103 has extensive picture settings for basic issues like contrast, brightness and so forth the addition of color, sharpness and detail enhancement settings that use powerful capabilities pf the Marvell QDEO video chip contribute to the player's exceptional picture quality
    • Until you've heard music of this quality, through a quality component like an Oppo, you really don't know what you're missing
    • so you send 1-HDMI directly to your TV (for top picture quality) and other to your AV receiver so it can process the sound
    • However once I received it and saw how nice the build quality was, I knew it was money well spent
    • BUT, you would then rather hook it with multi-channel cables, that deliver a wonderful sound quality.
    • Very good pictue quality
    • In addition, you can tell right away that it is built with exceptional quality and materials
    • The adaptive video processing does a nice job of slightly reducing noise in noisy video sources without sacrificing clarity (i.e. noticeably softening the image), where as it preserves the super clear quality of digitally shot, noise free sources.
    • The build quality of the player is amazing.
    • Sound quality was amazing as well.
    • Hardware and build quality, excellent
    • I love my unit has great sound picture quality is fantastic
    • Great build quality and looks fantastic on my ever growing media rack
    • Great picture quality, great sound, flexible input and output options
    • If you're looking for a top notch universal 3D player with great build quality, great customer service and perfect disc function second to none this is the player for you.
    • Sharp 70" Q+ with THX certification, Marantz SR7008 receiver connected to Bowers and Wilkins CM10s, Xbox 360 and high quality HDMI cables, all powered through a Furman Elite 15i
    • It's a smart device with both wired and wireless networking, with the ability to connect to a lengthy list of online services as well as to any local DLNA-compliant media library, and it even has a smartphone app available to let you use your smartphone as a remote for it
    • I wish it had 2k/4k support on the HDMI ports as well as having some more audio processing effects for only 2channel sources.
    • I smiled as it reminded me of the early 80's when my mother and I bought my father his first "audiophile" setup from Pacific Audio in Marin.
    • so I knew the sound would improve as it had neither of the lossless codecs.)
    • I had never tried it on my other blu-ray players, so there wasn't even a hi-def conversion point of reference--it looked just a crappy as it did on DVD players with SD TVs.
    • It really blew me away as to quality and performance
    • but if i was pressed to chose i would go with the 103 as far as 3d goes it also has two hdmi inputs picture quality there both as good as it gets the sound on cds the 103 and the 93 are hard to tell apart but my brother and i felt the 103 had a hair more detail over the93 in the deep
    • And the SACD portion works well too, for those of you who enjoy them as we do
    • a/v receiver using the second OPPO hdmi port- as they recommended.
    • and I have split A/
    • This Universal Player comes at a high price but you won`t get a better display until you reach the Oppo BDP-105, that will only be necessary if you are really into analogue-hifi-audiophile sound, since it has a better DAC and balanced XLR connectors that are only available on high end, extremely expensive equipments
    • If you have a good TV, you won`t notice any picture quality improvement.
