The one sacrifice is the clear plastic "window cover" of the defender series but the commuter series attempts to offset that with a clear plastic sticker to help protect the touchscreen.

After dropping my phone and the entire screen cracked I wanted a better cover.

This phone case is a dual layer case with the soft rubber which surrounds your phone and then a hard plastic cover on top.

It doesn't fit as snug as the other otterboxes I had for previous phones (hard cover doesn't fit into the grooves of the silicone...) but it works

I don't like the screen covers of the Defender series, so this combo has worked perfectly for me

Protective cover is a blue tint which looks dumb over the white phone and after a little over a week it's already bubbling and will need to be replaced soon.

My wife obtained a clear plastic cover for her phone which looks great but is not as protective.

Both issues with the top lip and the cover for the headphone port have been reported by others
