The main phone/answer system requires a cord to the phone jack, but all of the extra phones work from stands plugged into electric outlets (for recharging)

The desk phone works great when I am on a conference call and need hands free to use my computer, and the cordless phones can be used the same way, or obviously can be used throughout the house.
