I believe this is due to a weakness in the pen's design in the hard plastic where the pen attaches to the grip, at the little strip of silver around the pen with the company "Pentel" name printed there

but the plastic so incredibly cheap

Probably won't be buying any more of these due to the plastic cracking issue
