This is described in the manual and is not really optional if you want to get any useful life out of the headset cord.

It falls a bit short of 5 stars because the volume isn't as adjustable as I'd like (callers come in pretty loud sometimes), and the buttons are pretty small for my fingers, but otherwise it has worked well so far, and has a good long battery life away from the base.
