I did this only one time, and the "balance" for all the speakers and subwoofer then emitted perfectly balanced sound as far as I could tell--absolutely great surround sound

Take your time to use good, thick wire (14ga min), make good connections (equal length wire for each pair!), and properly place and aim the speakers to get a great surround experience

The receiver I had been using a Sony STR-DE935 had 5.1 surround, but the 10 year old receiver lacked the latest HDMI ports.

I also put my front R/L speakers on the Atlantic Satellite Speaker Stands (worked fine after having to alter (drill a hole) in the mounting bracket on the stands) since the polk speakers have bottom mounting screws, not back mounting screws.
