Very rewarding, very fast-paced, and lots of variety in enemies & environments

There are a few exceptions (Bioshock and Crysis are wonderful), but I feel like most of these action-shooters are so incredibly fast-paced that they just flow right through me, without any time to savor and think about what it is I'm experiencing.

Some of the levels allow you to take a relaxed pace, while others have a creeping wall of fire or rapidly sinking quicksand which require you to run as fast as you can to reach your goal
