• Reviews around character (3.65 of 5)

Red Dead Redemption - Playstation 3

    • The voice acting is top notch and these are the best character models
    • Nice graphics, good overall character control
    • I agree with an earlier poster that it's a bit weird for the lead character not to be able to swim.
    • Realistic characters with AMAZING voice dubs make this game great.
    • The story is good, but the characters are really complexed and untrust worthy
    • Whether they're selfish criminals and scam artists, or more decent folk, the many main and even supporting characters are well portrayed and realistic; the game really makes them feel real with their wide range of distinct personalities, appearances, and character flaws
    • The characters you run into are all western staples such as but not limited to: Snake oil salesman, Mexican rebel, Crazy old guy, and a bona-fide Rancher's daughter
    • Interesting characters and game play
    • Fame can never be lost and--combined with Honor--affects how other characters will respond when they see you, as either a famous hero (high honor) or infamous outlaw (low honor)
    • Overall, Red Dead Redemption offers a good story with great character development and voice acting, plenty of activities to keep you occupied, and a game that feels like the authentic old west
    • The controls, on foot and off, are perfect, coupled with the most realistic character and animal (namely the horses) movements and animations to date in a third person action/adventure game.
    • The whole game is character driven and fun to watch
    • The characters are great, the protagonist, Marsden, is a great leading man, the story is great - it's...great
    • Animation glitches: Great character models ruined by poor animation; horses get confused by riding around rocks, people movement is much less realistic than in other Rockstar games, such as GTAIV, people and animals constantly getting stuck in weird places - I once played a 30 min
    • The first half just didn't hook me, the missions felt too repetitive, with a slew of annoying side characters I just wanted to slap in the mouth
    • Rock Star games does a really good job of keeping a solid character together in John Marston, who is a former outlaw who is forced to do the governments dirty work in order to save his family from them
    • I don't think I'll ever find a leading character that I like so much, with so much depth in the story
    • The cutscenes are great and the characters are memorable, which something that can't be said for many other games.
    • The voice acting sounds pretty authentic and the main characters each have a separate personality
    • The authenticity carries itself over to the fantastic story and the characters that populate it.
    • Good graphics, engaging story and characters, lots of weapons.
    • A deep story, great setting and nice characters
    • I've enjoyed the main story line and tasks, been a member of a posse, encountered many interesting and a few creep/weird , characters, played poker, black-jack, horse shoes; ridden the train, stagecoach, driven cattle, hunted animals (been killed by several), seen some horrible scenes of violence (and gotten to take revenge/ justice for them), been a bronco-buster, capturing wild horses, and much more
    • Voice work is varied like most games that utilize a large array of talking NPCs, but some of the "important" characters don't sound too convincing
    • And John is a cool character to play
    • When the story feels like it begins to drag along, the voice actors still seemed to hold my interest, especially because of the well-developed characters
    • It's not just the great story, great characters, a big world with so much wildlife you just end up thinking is really alive
    • Great graphics, a well crafted story, fantastic characters, great gameplay, loads of stuff to do, and incredibly fun
    • This game just does everything right and by the end I'm sure John Marston will be one of my new favorite video game characters
    • How about: the storyline, the main missions, the side missions, the mini-games, the "old west" atmosphere, the horses, the memorable characters, and the ending.
    • There are pleanty of great characters that you meet each having thier own story
    • One of the great, sympathetic characters in video game history, his story is one that you will never forget
    • the characters themselves were realistic, without being all twitchy like other games (think ps2 classics like vice city or others.)
    • Great Vide Game, it ihas a great story, a strong main character and very
    • If you want to kill John character just to get the story going for the sequal, you can have him kill on a different criminal hunt mission by having agents betray him
    • Excellent gunfights, strong characters and plenty of room for expansion makes Red Dead Redemption one of the best games of 2010 in my opinion.
    • People like Bonnie MacFarlane, Landon Ricketts, and Luisa Fortuna are believable characters who you'll have a profound emotional connection with
    • My character died in a cutscene, out of my control, when he could have just taken cover and killed the gang like he did EVERY OTHER TIME throughout the game
    • John Marston is one of the most memorable characters to pop up in video games recently
    • And the protagonist, well no character in film or game has been as thoroughly developed as John Marston has been
    • Both in the main missions and the many side missions known as Stranger events, Marston will be doing favors for all kinds of people like collecting important items scattered across the land and bringing them back, escorting friendly NPC characters, and riding horses or horse-drawn wagons through the desert landscape while shooting pursuing enemies, all in the hopes of getting a decent lead on the location of his former gang
    • With regards to the number of favors and jobs you have to do for people, the game does tend to throw a seemingly endless list of chores at you to the point where Marston himself, a relatively patient man, grows irritated and almost hostile by the constant demand of favors by predominantly unscrupulous and dishonorable characters
    • Tough characters doing as they please and getting whatever they want are the center of these stories
    • Wonderful story, deep characters, hours and hours of playability and DLC to boot (pun intended).
    • John Marston is one of my favorite lead characters in video games now, and I was hyped to see that his legend would continue in Undead Nightmare, an add-on pack later released on disc
    • More surprisingly, missions which one might expect to eventually feel repetitive or mundane stay fresh and avoid becoming a slog - possibly because the genre is so underrepresented in videogames, or possibly because they help to establish the world and its inhabitants as honest, real, and believable characters
    • The characters are more dynamic and more lively than that of GTA
    • These characters are the rare gems of decency in the almost lawless land of New Austin (in Texas) and Nuevo Paraiso (in Mexico) who ask Marston to help them in assisting people in dire need of a helping hand
    • The unlocks for completing the game are ugly character models, horrible guns, stupid horses
    • She's a great character.
    • In the end, while Red Dead Redemption is incredibly beautiful and very atmospheric, the story needs much editing and trimming, the missions are forgettable, the annoying characters will get on your nerves, the ending goes on longer
    • Sometimes there are weird glitches that can cause you to have to restart a mission (ex: once when clearing out a gang hideout, there was an invisible gang member who I could see on the map, but not in person and could not shoot) or may freeze a character (I once lassoed a bounty target who froze in an upright position
    • One particularly inventive decision is that each match starts with a duel, with all characters meeting center stage and scrambling in a wild shootout duel to see which team or character gets off to the better start
    • other then the story's narrative being advanced,In short, the setting is not a fluid organic thing, similar to most other games which are driven by a tight story from beginning cinematic to end cinematic, the difference is that this game creates an illusion of openness, and the illusion is great, the ability to ride your horse anywhere you want when you want to makes you feel like you own this character even though he has been 100% created for you by Rockstar (it helps that his, and everyone else character is fantastic)None of this is a criticism (not exactly anyway, well get to that) either, I have enjoyed GTA's but never finished one, I'm the poster child for ADD and its just too much work for me to get through the whole thing, I do side stuff until I forget what the hell is even going on in the story, then I play a new game, I'll end up getting plenty of hours out of it but never finish
    • Guns look real, and the characters are believable and legit.
    • As usual, Rockstar once again offers a variety of both layered and downright insane, hyperbolic characters
    • Outside of that this game has diversity, challenge and a great perspective from a well-written character, John Marston.
    • The characters sometimes glitch and do animations that were not supposed to happen, or even disappear entirely, but that is expected in an open world game
    • This is going to sound a bit 'cheesy' but the character development and plot in this game is so incredibly well-done that by the end of the game, you actually care about the characters and what happens
    • Overall the story is filled with deep character development and more twists than a pretzel, which makes it one of the best in the medium
    • It's a truly immersive environment, with fantastic voice acting and characters.
    • I genuinely liked John Marston's character for the most part
    • It was dark and had dark characters and anyone in the game with moral ethics tends to die.
    • The characters also look great, and main cowboy John Marston is so life-like you find yourself becoming really attached to him
    • Great game, so much to do I give it a 9.7 out of 10.Superb cast of memorable characters
    • It's a beautiful open world western game and the main character is excellent
    • If you loved GTA 4, and you love western games, you'll love this game for sure, it brings the best physics engine, which makes everything look fantastic, but all engines do come with their faults, after a while, there are glitches, and the characters do start to freeze and tweak out, but besides that, there is a lot of authentic western adventures to go on, i don't want to spoil it, but i know you'll like this if you loved GTA, and if you didn't, still give it a shot, it wont disappoint.
    • By the end, John Marston became one of my all time favorite video game characters, and I was really able to appreciate the overall story.
    • John Marston is one of the most believable character in video games since Nathan Drake
    • In Red Dead, you play the character John Marston, a reformed outlaw who is forced by the federal government to travel across the fictional territory of New Austin, and Mexico, to hunt down his former partners in crime
    • The characters are likable and the voice acting and animations are really nice
    • Anyway, such great character development is my point
    • Anyone who enjoys old westerns has to appreciate the storyline and the characters.
    • I think it has everything many gamers are looking for: a great story line, well developed characters, fun game play, and I love the horseback riding and how there is so much more to do than just kill people
    • The game is a tremendous value as well as it seems like it will end several times but keeps going providing a ton of gameplay
    • The story unravels as you play and discover more of what is going on in the West in 1911.
    • On the PS3 Graphic Report Card, this gets a solid A+ and could be the best looking game of 2010.Sound_______________________________________________________________________The music is perfect, and the score is so fitting for every scene
    • I would definitely recommend the game, but would also recommend to buy the fastest horse in the game as soon as you can
    • I have to compliment R* for the depth of the experience and characters in the game.
    • I'd also like to see something in the form of bosses as opposed to set pieces, but R* will have to clean up their controls, which compared to say Mass Efeect are good, but any AAA action game, suck
    • My personal opinion, RDR is the best R* game ever
