    • These are great receivers and setup was easy using SDR#. I started in with ADSB tracking and liked it so much, I decided to play some more with SDR and got this
    • The extra antennas (one small ~12" and one big ~6') are easily worth the extra $5.One other note about the amp draw: other sdr's (the dvb-t type) work fine on a Raspberry Pi 2, but this one seems to pull too much current and doesn't work for me.
    • In this band, I've tested a multi-tone audio signal going through an amateur radio (I'm licensed) running 1 watt into a dummy load, and looking at the spectrum to determine if the transmitted signal has IMD (Overdriven audio into clipping and harmonics).The RTL-SDR is so sensitive that I ended up removing the antenna completely, running just the device, and even then I had to lower the gain
    • There are better SDR's, but they also cost much more, (the more expensive varieties include the Airspy $199, SDRplay $149 and the
    • It's a great beginner SDR dongle that can be used for many different purpose (trunked radio, ADS-B, APT, AIS, and much more)It does get quite hot though after some time, so you don't really want to touch it all the time (unless you want your own micro hand warmer!)

    • Very responsive SDR dongle, works with any computer, and setting it up with ubuntu gqrx was a snap, I've tried other packages on linux and they all work with some tweaking, the windows versions also work well but with less tweaking required
