For now, if you are dealing with a desktop, consider my strategy of using it as the boot disk with all your programs installed, and other, less expensive drives for storage

I've put them on 5-year old laptops as well as desktops and despite the occasional glitch in getting the drive to "initialize" or get recognized by the PC prior to cloning (sometimes computer sees it right away, sometimes you have to massage it), the process takes less than an hour for most hard drives (cloning) and then bang, your machine is much much faster.

In order to minimize the writes to my disks, I put all personal data storage on a 'old fashion' mechanical hard drive so that the operating system and installed software only require 50 to 60 gigabytes.

If your cloning effort from the existing hard drive is running really slow, like 5 or 10 MB/s, and the Samsung Migration software says "cloning failed" at some point, you may have this problem.

Between the Core i7 processor and the Samsung SSD this laptop runs very cool, much cooler than my 17" MacBook Pro running a Core 2 Duo processor and a 1TB hard drive.
