the top no longer fits into the base and the finish is rubbing off showing the cheap "wood" beneath

Of course it's made of cheap wood and you must be careful with dragging it on carpet or setting heavy stuff on it

They are inexpensive and of course not solid wood like their higher end pieces but still are well designed and put together while being attractive.
