This drive literally failed completely within a month of using it

After a few research seagate has great speed and also a hybrid drive for games

It worked flawlessly as a replacement main hard drive in my Late 2012 27" iMac.

I just purchased this 1 Terabyte Seagate FireCuda for a new HP Pavilion Desktop 510-p114 (Intel Core I-7, with 12 GB ram, paid $500 for it from Best Buy at a pre-black Friday online sale last week) and it is about 5 times as fast as the standard 7200 rpm hard drive that came with the machine.

Not as good as a true SSD, but is faster then a normal mechanical hard drive.

I found that read times are slightly faster than a normal hard drive, in the region of about 1.5 to 2 times however where this drive shines is in its write times which I found to be between 2 to 4 times faster.

With my setup, I have a my OS on an SSD and my games on a 7200rpm hard drive (WD Caviar Black).

A hard drive should be in a box for protection, not in a padded manila envelope.

A standard 7200rpm hard drive reads and writes to the system directly (although it may have a small cache to improve performance).

Boot and loading times aren't as bad as they're made out to be, especially if you actually have a good 7200rpm drive

I opened my iMac, removed the old hard drive, dropped this one in, connected a third-party adapter to monitor the temperature (necessary to fit Seagate's configuration otherwise your fan computer fan will spin at max), closed up the iMac, booted up with Command-R, and let time machine install it's backup right onto the new drive (I may have had to prep the drive using Disk Utility but that took all of 5 minutes).

I use this drive to store my photo library (about 300 GB), and the drive is a lot faster than I expected.

It is quite possible that I may have just received a bad drive, even though I bought it brand-new, especially when given my poor luck

This is a Hybrid drive, so what that means is that now that solid state memory is so cheap the hd manufacture has taken what used to be a very small 64MB prefetch cache that existed on regular hard drives, and beefed it it up to 8 GB.

They claim it's 5x faster than your typical drive, which may be true if you are comparing to an old drive from years ago maybe, but the newer hard drives are actually pretty speedy nowadays

Did have some problems with my old tool free external drive case not recognizing the drive...not sure if it was the size or the SSD buffer, but I simply purchased a more modern external drive case...and now it works just fine

The first drive died after 3 days - I was using this for game and hosting VMs

Bottom line: think about the files your hard drive is accessing regularly and if performance would improve if those files could load at ssd speed.

This Seagate drive is has very quick response and, although it is a hybrid drive, it is close to a solid state drive in performance

7200rpm drives nowadays are fast and in reality the difference in times is measured in a second or two, not 30 seconds or a minute.

Check your height dimensions on your current hard drive and compare it with this one to make sure you don't have to get any spacers to adjust for the difference.

Installed this drive for a client into a 2009 iMac, noticed a good increase in speed over the previous drive and the best part was the hard drive seemed to be compatible with the mac temperature sensor connector

Also, no noticeable hard drive thrashing which is good idea to keep an eye on in resource monitor.

I decided to go for it when I became worried about the original hard drive showing signs of inconsistent behavior recently, possibly becoming "wobbly" on me - maybe dying at some point due to a long satisfactory life to this point.

This hard drive has a nice speed with SATA 3 and it has nice storage space for all of my PC games.

I use this drive to run instrument samples in my DAW to produce music, these instrument samples are HUGE, each one are several GB's to load and this drive is much faster than my standard external drive I was using before, I would guess it loads stuff 30-40% faster than my USB 3.0 external drive
