The Seagate 1TB BarraCuda ST1000LM048 also consume less power and operate at a lower temperature compared to the HGST 1TB Travelstar 7K1000 and for two reasons i) the platters on the Seagate drives spin at a lower RPM, thus the motor consumes less power ii) the Seagate drives are 7mm thick as oppose to the HGST drives which are 9.5mm thick, hence the Seagate’s permit slightly more air to flow about the hard drive when mounted in a 2.5” inch sled such as that typically used by Supermicro, Icydock

Seems pretty speedy for a spinning platter hard drive and the 128MB cache makes a difference

This drive is much quicker than the original and the system runs great with it however for the technically minded I noticed that the performance when copying a large file from one part of the drive to the other part of the drive was very very slow it starts out fast but after about 15 seconds slows down to a speed up like 20 megabytes a second or less this won't matter to most people unless you need to move large files on and off your laptop but for regular desktop performance the cache on the hard drive makes things speed up except for really large files where the cash runs empty and things really slow down
