Before I put it on to test it out (was a gift to my mom), I was about to get disappointed at how LIGHT it felt (I'm used to heavier headphones) because I thought it wouldn't be able to block out ambient noise as well, but once it's on and you're listening to something, it exceeded all expectations

They dampen some of the ambient noise, but they don't cancel it out completely.

Over the ear and must at least take care of 80% of ambient noise

And I'm no audiophile, but I think the quality is fantastic, plus the headphones themselves are really great at sealing out ambient noise without active cancellation.

The sound is very clear, and they block out a good amount of ambient noise (not all).
