Sennheiser HD 650 Open Back Professional Headphone

    • Music is extremely pleasurable, well balanced, and even at higher volume, easy on the ears.
    • Compared to the HD 600 they have less efficiency, the headband is less comfortable, and their spectral balance is not as good.
    • For me, the HD 650 strikes the perfect balance between exceptional technical ability and musicality
    • The vocals and the instruments; horns, guitar, drums, cymbals and strings are extremely well balanced and crystal clear
    • Fantastic clean sound, fantastic resolution, fantastic tone, warm, extremely well balanced, great bass (not boosted), very detailed sound, well separated instruments, very present sound, great sound stage, the highs and mids are smooth, clean and sound very musically.

    • Both the HD650 and PTH500 have the best balance across all sound frequencies with the widest sound stage
    • , good overall balance
    • Overall, I feel the HD-650's are too heavy-sounding and kind of "dark" - the bass is too strong for a good sound balance
    • The Senn 650 is somewhat in between for a good balance of true sound with some ever-so slight flavor.
    • Perfect balanced and transparent headphones
    • The 650's produce a warm, balanced sound (for my ears) that is pleasant to listen to for extended periods without fatigue.

    • These have the perfect balance to me for listening to house, trance, hip hop...
    • Alanis Morisette beautifully balances heart and tempo on "Flavors Of Entanglement"; from the huge rasping beats of "Straitjacket", the soft piano on "Not As We" or the playful bassline on "Giggling Again For No Reason", you never lose sight of the most important tool; her voice
    • The Bose were pretty close to these, but I think the HD650s simply have better clarity and balance
    • The AKGs were balanced, but weak.

    • These are well balanced - they are slightly warm and musical compared to pure 'flat' studio monitors, but there's not overpowering frequencies, anywhere
    • Id hold out for another crazy B&H or Adorama deal on
    • For softer pop songs and guitars, "Acoustic" brings out the lighter more ethereal tones, but stay away from the flattening abomination called "Pop"; if you want a fun punchy pop song, I'd recommend "R&B", it may be a bit on the smooth side bass-wise, but it does the job well
    • Even a colored one may often be difficult to tell apart in a Double A/B Blind Test

    • The HD650's may not have the fancy technologies of orthodynamic or electrostatic units, nor the pricey parts and accessories, but they definitely sound nearly as good and even better in some ways
    • I have found they sound marvelous with vintage Marantz receivers that can be obtained inexpensively, as well as from modern dedicated headphone amps
    • The headphones were nice enough to put the Braille letter L on the left side but the cable has no such thing.
