After some time and research, it turns out that there are a number of Play:5 Gen 2's with faulty wireless chips/cards which makes them fall off of wireless systems periodically, or permanently

And now I fear my Play 5 has a failed wireless card since it just stopped working and won’t connect wirelessly but will connect if plugged in directly to the router

It's a shame, b/c just like GoPro, they introduced this unwanted feature when I was about to buy another.
