Image quality a bit soft wide open, & the motor noise was noticeable.

It's a little soft wide open at f/1.8, but we can't expect perfection for $248

Even when mounted on the a7rIII, the lens is very sharp wide open...which is not typical of a budget oriented lens (like the Canon nifty fifty).

The lens formula is a modified double gauss, not perfectly corrected for spherical aberrations, so it's naturally slightly soft wide open, on the other hand the lens has very nice bokeh

Though it's slightly soft wide open, it does portraits superbly

Optics, this lens seems to have fairly good optics wide open, it seems more even compared to the canon, which has a fast and massive drop on the edges.
