I needed something to analysis ambient noise from audio recording.

The do have a nice snug fit on my head and i don't hear much ambient noise and have the Sony name, but if the are uncomfortable, they aren't worth owning.

The headphones sound great and enough of the ambient noise is eliminated to make them useful for monitoring video camera audio in classroom environments

and they naturally block out ambient noise.

for headphones without active noise cancellation these do an impressive job of blocking out a large amount of ambient noise- an added bonus

I use these in the studio as well as for the TV late at night

These have a tinny sound to them, as well as when listening with them, i hear what sounds like an old 33 1/3 record scraping sound through them.
