Lesson learned: no matter how busy I am I will not trust the integrity of a vendor or a manufacturer, I must verify that the item I ordered works as it should.

Right away, there were a few things that bothered me - such as, there was no light to tell me if it was on/off - the buttons and the display were hard to see.

I unplugged from the power line and used just the C batteries and the hum was completely gone
