I had no trouble setting this up with my Sony X900F TV and Polk soundbar (using ARC)

With the right TV you gain better picture quality, but lose all apps other than Netflix, YouTube and Amazon

We didn’t want to upgrade the tv quite yet as it’s not that old, but we wanted the smart tv functions and enhanced picture.

That’s pretty much every format that you could ask for, with the only limitations being your TV and your audio receiver

Keep in mind that as of February 2018 (last year) there were no consumer TVs capable of 12 bit color depth

I've got video game consoles, streaming devices, a DVR and an over-the-air antenna that feed my smart TV, as well as the smart TV itself with all of the applications that it offers,

Doesn't hurt to have these, but this player will be no replacement for a smart TV or Roku stick.
