The Staedtler Mars 780 is a very good lead holder in the 2.0 mm size.

This is what a mechanical pencil should be, a nice wide lead that doesn't break under pressure

I like 2mm lead for doodling and this pencil works perfectly for the job

These are great, sturdy lead holders for technical or art drawing.

Quality feel, holds leads securely, works smoothly, and nice to have a little lead pointer in the button when my larger sharpener isn't around.

The lead that comes with it is really hard which is great for sketching light.

The problem seems to be in the diameter of the clutch collar which is too small to accommodate the clutch jaws, preventing them from retracting fully on the lead as well as causing internal pinching of the lead on its way out.

I had use various lead holders before from others brands including including Faber-Castell and Rotring to name some and all I can say is this is the more comfortable lead holder I've ever handle making me feel I could last forever rendering anything this is not the last model from Staedler Mars 780 C which have lead have the convenience of lead pointer integrated but neither the lead holder I was using

As others have mentioned, it would be best to swap out for some softer lead(HB and up) if you intend on using this to write and draw

Only negative I can think of is the lead it comes with isn't as good as the lead that the old version had.

Overall, this lead holder is a great value at its price, but if you're planning to use it "professionally" it might be a good idea to invest in a nicer sharpener and some good quality lead.

If you want to use this for drawing, definitely get a box of 2B or darker lead with it (which I luckily did)

If the 'button' gets a little squeaky, just pop the push end open and drop a dab of oil in the tube (remove the lead first) and then work the button a few, or a dozen times

This lead is strong enough to do that and know i won't damage anything.
