The issue may be because your standard phone case is too big.- The clamping mechanism at the top is solid and well-designed to ensure a secure air-tight seal.

The seal is really good, you can tell how tight it is when you lock it and the lanyard is very strong, kept getting on and off tubes in the rapids river and the case would sometimes get wedged between the tube and our bodies and we never had an issue with the cases breaking off the lanyard

Luckily we double protected with a Lifeproof case or we'd be purchasing a new phone - we used this product at a water park and followed all instructions, made sure there were no folds and the seal was perfect and water still got in.
