I tried the suggested fixes, even a hard reset

The fix was easy, I did what is referred to as a hard reset which you can find a description of on youtube involving a sequence of using the power and volume buttons

after updating when the battery dies I need to do a hard reset

You want to do the hard reset before you load all of your information because you will just have to load all of your preferences and personal information again

so I had to do a hard reset because my phone stopped working properly.

As I said, I would have given it five stars except for having to do the hard reset to regain wifi connection

It not as smooth as Samsung Galaxy S 3 ot 5, but you got what you paid.
