The passive noise cancellation - or noise isolation (by just wearing them) is pretty good already, and when you turn on the active noise cancellation, the effect is quite good

So this means that if I want to have reasonably good sound even when there is no nearby noise to cancel out, I still have to turn on the noise cancelling, but then I have to put up with that humming noise that is especially noticeable in a quiet room
