It has several gain options, but I have only had to use the lowest level and it outputs a large enough sound without having too much gain noise attached to the recording

My only criticism is that I would like it better if it had totally adjustable gain levels

Not as effective when mic gain is on "HI", but still very useful.. almost necessary, as with most digital audio recorders

Sufficient gain to make clear, low noise recordings.
