The specs cite an incredible -125dbu EIN (input noise level) which is as good as a high end portable unit like the Mackie DL16xx which is -128dbEIN

With only one mic channel active, the units makes digital clipping noises at a low latency level, so I raise the buffer size, but then the latency makes it useless for live music processing

Anyone have any ideas, or is this just a defective unit? Thanks!

The unit itself is very sturdy, yet lightweight and easy to carry

In addition to the four inputs and outputs the unit also supports MIDI devices (keyboards, drums, etc.) -- but I did not test MIDI compatibility

I wanted to like this unit, I really did, the company had a solid reputation of being in the industry for quite some time, the concept behind the unit was fantastic, even the way the unit felt was wonderful, nothing in the construction felt cheap

CONCLUSION---------------Overall, I think it's a great unit.

This unit was easy for me to set up and get running on my Dell Studio running Windows 7 (64-bit)

Pros:This is a very nice unit, with a professional feel and a reasonable price

The Tascam US-2x2 audio/midi interface is an awesome entry level unit with mic pre-amps that improves audio quality and much more

And the manual says to never connect or disconnect the mics when the phantom power switch is set to +48, as again you'll get the high pitched noises/screeches that will damage your unit and equipment

Solid unit with zero noise

Quality is top notch, in my case, the quality far exceeds the quality of microphones I have and that will be our next upgrade, but I'm confident this is the right unit with 2-3 mics leaving one for future use

So far an excellent basic recording unit for me and for my limited budget.1

However, this unit just started shipping (Tascam delayed because of problems with the drivers), so I thought the above information was very important for prospective buyers, especially first-timers.
