The preamps are good

The audio quality is truly excellent and the mic preamps are very very quiet

The mic preamps are clean and RFI resistant but, like the Tascam DR-100 MKII, are somewhat clinical and edgy

Preamps have a little more hiss than some of my devices and less than others, but still very usable

This means you can use two of these units in tandem to get a total of 16 simultaneous preamped inputs for only $600! and by the way these preamps are loud

I was considering the (currently more expensive) M-Audio M-Track Eight and Presonus 1818VSL units, but chose the TASCAM in the end and boy

This happened with my M-Audio Fast Track Pro which worked very well too but some power surge killed its output (just the interface fortunately) and decided to replace it with this Tascam.
