I was looking for an inexpensive protein to replace freeze-dried tofu "steaks" (kohya dofu) that I used to buy locally (but the store closed) to take on New Zealand backpacks for use in a curry dish.

This is an excellent protein chunk best used with dishes that have a strongish taste as the protein itself does have a bit of its own taste, a sort of generic weak veggie taste which is not unpleasant but you will want to mask it, i use it in soups and fake Shepherds pies !

So I've been trying to find ways around this, and while I'm not strictly vegan or vegetarian, this makes a wonderful protein addition to my meal rotations
