Trails series is probably the the first ambitious JRPG series in terms of storytelling and world building

Would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys JRPG's and tentatively to anyone who likes western RPG's (it's very Japanese in art style, story style, and character development--however the fictional game world is much more "western" in flavor than Japanese).
