Every DVD since first use has played without any issues, though it does have some hiccups (freezing, then skipping forward, which can be horribly annoying and cause loss of continuity in whatever you're viewing) with very condensed DVD disks like those containing HBO cable series such as True Blood or The Tudors, as examples

DVD's play great and is a perfect size for traveling with kiddos.
