Both Canvios come preloaded with a program to backup and sync your files, but if you used this, Toshiba recommends that you do not set-up the password feature, as any glitch in either the computer or hard drive will prevent the password sign in from coming up, and there is no back door recovery.

So when I got the hard drive on the Mac replaced at the Apple store and started with default settings, I was able to upload all of my stuff back on the mac just like "it never happened."

Worked great as a backup drive for my Mac.

Portable External Hard Drive -

I contacted Toshiba and Geek Squad to confirm that they were incompatible, so the third time purchased Western Digital 1TB My Passport Ultra USB 3.0 Secure Portable External Hard Drive, Blue (WDBGPU0010BBL-NESN) and that one works like a charm with our Toshiba LapTop.

It also seems like it isn't the easiest to open/find what I'm looking for on the hard drive itself.

This drive works great!

I will be purchasing a second of these Toshiba Canvio Connect II hard drives in just a little while so I can keep my data stored in a safe deposit box as well as here at home.

Works every time but not as fast as my Seagate 750GB Internal 2.5" hard drive plugged into my INATECK Internal hard drive adaptor to USB 3.0.

so it takes high marks for the shortest lived hard drive I've ever owned.

This hard drive is not a simple thing to use

The drive has failed after only being used as a backup drive

Sometimes, when connecting the hard drive, the security software won't start automatically

It started working fine, but then after time passed it randomly switched my hard drive from mac os (journaled) to rtfs and ruined all my files (ALMOST 200GB OF VIDEO AND PICTURES) and now it won't even open anymore or let me reformat it

A large-capacity drive and a good value for a USB-3 powered portable drive.

The hard drive itself works fine but the main reason I purchased this particular product was the misleading product description

A true terrabyte hard drive should be 1099511627776 bytes (1024^4), but no such hard drive exists
