    TP-Link 5 Port Gigabit Ethernet Network Switch | Ethernet Splitter | Sturdy Metal w/ Shielded Ports | Life Time Warranty| Plug-and-Play | Traffic Optimization | Unmanaged (TL-SG105)

    • First, use the utility that comes on the CD to find the device for you, assign a proper IP in the device settings or set it up for DHCP.
    • I had to return this product since it does not assign a unique IP Address and conflicts with trying to use it as a switch for Access Points.
    • So that means I will need to either temporarily reconfigure my router with just this device attached hoping I can change the default IP settings, or I will have to completely redo my entire network as several devices are on a static IP address.
    • Note that the default IP address of this switch is 192.168.0.1, which can be configured after login to another static IP or DHCP.
    • And I found the DHCP client a bit flaky, so am using a static IP address
    • Even after connecting to an air-gapped old laptop with RJ45 connector and re-programming it to be DHCP (it ships with a static IP), it caused the whole network to fail due to conflicts with the internet gateway server
    • so it isn't so vulnerable if i did assign a static ip to it.
    • Setup your computer with a static IP of 192.168.0.100 and subnet 255.255.255.0.3
    • I contacted support and they were insistent that I had to use static IP
    • You can specify a static IP but this created routing issues for me when trying to access the switch's management interface.
    • Most use this switch internally so probably not as big a deal, in my situation i was using as a WAN switch to split internet before our firewall, so by adding a static IP i would be able to logon to it
    • if quirks like needing to setup static IP's to manage the device, what else down the road would I run
    • inexpensive IP generator.would be even better with POE
    • But I had to set my PC to a Static IP for the initial setup to work. .
    • (this is my job, software test).Only complaint is you have to install their software on a PC, or set a static IP on its expected network, neither of which I like.
    • Great little switch - but be forewarned, my 8 port came factory set to have a static IP address of 192.168.0.1 -- which just so happened to be the same I use as my home network's router...
    • We don't have to configure anything, although we can still setup a static IP address within the router for each device by mac address and expect that those settings will work
    • (this is my job, software test).Only complaint is you have to install their software on a PC, or set a static IP on its expected network, neither of which I like.
    • The only positive I have to review on is that the switch seems to have a quality build to it
