The associated Tether app was utterly worthless at recognizing the device (tech support option wouldn't load), and connecting via ethernet to set up my network wasn't much better

Would suggest that they make the Firmware version and build info copyable so we can cut & paste into the tech support chat window...

The less-than-smart-thing was to call tech support, which is what I did.
