The fact that the batteries are not user replaceable is also a major issue for me.
Operation would not burden a user, but would make information available on demand.
I gave it 4 stars for one reason: I would prefer a user replaceable battery bay.
Normally, I would rate that as a pretty good success rate, but we just found out that these units don't have user replaceable batteries
Without user replaceable cells, most people will either scrap the unit or send it in to TrippLite for what I would imagine to be an expensive battery replacement service.
I contacted Tripp Lite support (which costs you a long distance call, because they do not have a 1-800 number!!
I contacted Tripp Lite support about this issue, and they claimed that this is standard behavior
The clearly defective units are one thing, but the refusal to acknowledge the problem from Tripp Lite support is just unacceptable from a supposed industry leader
We contacted Tripp Lite support about this, and they have so far done nothing but insist that this problem is 'normal' for when running a PC off the UPS.This tells me one of a few things has to be true:1
A recent call to the Tripp Lite Support Team to discuss these issues was met with a brick wall for Mac support - but after prodding the first tech into getting a supervisor on the line, he indicated that a Mac version of their
Now the surge protection only side is great for things like speakers and printers, but if you plug your computer into the wrong side, you won't get the battery backup feature.
Like most ups, half of the outlets are surge and battery backup, the other half are just surge protection.
Has 4 power backup outlets and 4 surge protection outlets
some outlets on battery back-up, others just on surge protection
Like the option of 5 plugs for surge protection as well as 5 plugs for battery backup.
Great product, quickly shipped and perfect for my sensitive electronics.
Very nice product, and the beeping can be turned off fairly easily.
The product I received my be defective because it doesn't keep equipment powered at all during a power loss even though the display shows as ~80% power draw
The product is great, tell me exactly what I need to know
Good product,, always good to have proper protection for electronics now days.
This time the unit worked as it should, display showed full charge, and with a two hour power failure earlier this week it ran gave me time to shut the system down
FreeBSD and MidnightBSD to panic as it thinks it's an input device (mouse etc
Beware as they just shut off and never turn back on again.
This Smartpro battery backup works exactly as advertised.
I feel like there’s some false advertising going on here
FreeBSD and MidnightBSD to panic as it thinks it's an input device (mouse etc
Also, the Dish receiver designers are apparently so good that the unit has no way to cycle power except by unplugging--not good when software locks up
This is a good way to protect your electronics at a cheaper price than APC.

Also, if you are using these in a home theater environment, where it will be visible, I do like that you could choose to linearly dim the display (slide dimmer switch) or pop it out and rotate it 90 degrees so it can sit vertical or horizontal
It is fortunate that before the display stopped working I was able to configure the device to indicate that it had an external battery attached and show estimated battery run times accordingly
I have replaced about 60 batteries, around 11 volts (according to a Fluke voltmeter--NOT the internal inaccurate display), which is when we discovered they fail to power a small PC for more than 15 seconds
I bought this one over others like it for its extra battery protected outlets, the display, and the power it puts out
A control to dim the display would have been a nice addition
However, capacity, functions and smoothing out power to my high end components worked very well through a power outage.
I have lost a tv to surges and this little unit has been working great for 3+ years.
Update on September 28, 2012:The display is currently working, but has stopped and started working a number of times during the months I have owned the unit.
I've worked in IT support for 10 years, and have not ever had a problem with Tripp Lite products, and I used to recommend them to my friends and clients regularly
The device has worked flawlessly, im happy to know my tv is safe.

and it's not worth dealing with the manufacturer.
In all, this is a great unit and for 1000VA, it's a good deal.

Computer worked as before
This time the unit worked as it should, display showed full charge, and with a two hour power failure earlier this week it ran gave me time to shut the system down
So, my brand new computer would lose power, and restart at random intervals
They work fine with my TV and stereo, however computers that use Power Factor Correction (PFC) power supplies may not tolerate the power quality that comes from the unit when running on battery.
The battery would not kick in and my computer would be shut down and my TV would lose all user settings
The Tripp lite was one of them that died but my computer and accessories that were plugged into it were fine
The UPS was damaged and, also, our computer, our printer, our internet modem, our monitor and our DSL line
But if it goes south, as mine did today (shut off intermittently, failed self-test by shutting down because the battery was on its last legs

Running a 2016 iMac, audio interface, Cisco network switch, and iMac peripherals (external hard drives, etc) and still only hitting about 15% of the load, so my battery backup time is calculated to be ~35 minutes.
All devices connected to the UPS will suddenly get cut off from power; this is very bad for hard drives!
I guess I was lucky that the at the time of shut down, my hard drive was not writing on the disk
It was quite panic, as such shut off may cause hard drive damage (actually file structure damage) if hard drive was at same time writing on the disk

No lightning strike, etc, the UPS just failed to come back on when the power bumped so my filter pumps stopped working.
When the batteries on my APC BR1500G failed the self test after 5 years I figured this would have been a good time to get a rack mount UPS for my server rack
There is not a single unit on the market that is 100% safe during a direct lightning strike, so make sure you have a backup
When the batteries on my APC BR1500G failed the self test after 5 years I figured this would have been a good time to get a rack mount UPS for my server rack
I had a storm last year that crippled about $3000 worth of equipment when a bolt of lightning struck very close
