Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X Advanced Gigabit Ethernet Routers ER-X 256MB Storage 5 Gigabit RJ45 ports

    • I love how easy it is to assign static ip addresses for devices
    • Here at work, configured for a static IP address, which by itself was not easy, but there are straightforward instructions in the Ubiquii help.
    • I wanted my computer on LAN 2 (port 2) but could not get that to work until I finally remembered to change from a static IP address to using DHCP.
    • I set the IP address to the first static IP address in my range and set the EdgeRouter to use the 2wire att router to route out to the internet using the last static IP that AT&T gave me.2) NOTE that when they ask for an IP address, you should type in the IP address you want the router to be at, not the base IP address for the network
    • Updated to 1.7.0 but no great improvements. need to be able to easily filter by MAC addresses in and Address Group like structure without having to use CLI and be able to filter by full or partial Host Name the same way.
    • Once initially connected but before configuring, I tried to update the firmware to the latest release...and discovering how to do it was a nice learning adventure...but once updated, I had the same problems in connecting to the ER-X as before until I again set a low static IP address needed for initial configuration
    • The method to setting up static IP addresses makes little to no sense in my opinion.
    • I even had to tweak the static IP address to finally connect to the ER-X.
    • I finally realized my static IP address for setup was for the second LAN on port 0.
    • Initial setup requires a static IP address be set on the computer to talk to the ER-X.
    • Works as I had hoped
