It provides exactly what I need for the lab environment, with network isolation, virtual switching, and enough network services to make it all work

In my first setup of one of these I used the following as referenceVLAN aware switching - creating and assigning 4 isolated networks with dot1q vlans per switch port for both native and tagged instances

I paired it up with a Ubiquiti Unifi Ap-AC Lite - Wireless Access Point - 802.11 B/A/G/n/AC (UAPACLITEUS) and got it set up with an isolated guest network (after some tinkering in the Unify controller)

Has many features for those who have complex network needs

I am often watching the lights blink on that also and knowing the servers are active on a stable network is all I ask for.

I can finally stop obsessing over this stuff and just enjoy my network.

(this unit only comes with a 6).There were others, but this is the gist - If you need a low cost firewall that can push up to 950mbit (with hwnat) and can support multiple networks, QoS, and VPN for a small office (5-15 people) this is a good grab

If you need 100-200Mb/s of traffic shaping capability in a cheap box and you have intermediate networking skills or better, then this is a viable option

Upgraded my parents network to this plus a docsis 3 modem and a ubiquiti wireless access point and it was a vast improvement in every way.

It can get pretty technical if you are not network savvy as this is a small business router

We used it in a school connected to a POE switch which is providing Secure and Guest networks to our access points.
