Also, and a minor gripe, my phone, in its case (I keep in case, since the band does not protect from water), is a bit bigger than the device will easily accommodate

I have a flexible TPU case with a love-handle on my Pixel 2, and I do not have to remove either of those in order to use the armband, the rubber grips just slip right over the top and bottom of the phone without issue.

This item holds my phone with elastic bands and since my phone has a large protective case it is perfect.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 in an otter box protective case, and this holds the phone very securely with the case on.

My phone has stayed in the bands without any problems, I've even taken the phone out of its' protective case and used it.

I've been always using some cheap armbands with my previous phones, the ones that are made exactly to your phone and you have to remove the protective case and everything otherwise it won't fit in there, and the screen protector can be damaged when pushing it etc etc

Overall I like the case and will be keeping it for the gym

Other than that little annoyance it works as I wanted it to.
