This is a very quick hard drive -- positioned (performance-wise) between an SSD on one side and a standard 7,200 rpm SATA III on the other.

At the time they were as fast, sometimes faster than SSD drives (WD's 64 MB buffers helped a lot), much less expensive, and they had a much higher MTBF than SSD's did
