I contacted the manufacturer, gave them my key code and was informed that the product was licensed only to be installed on a new computer sold by Best Buy and was not for individual sale and was also only for trial use.

I also blame Best Buy, as they should not have sold the product to another party.

When I finally was able to talk to a real person at Webroot, they told me that my key code was activated by Best Buy last year and there was nothing they could do about it.

Apparently there is a six month subscription when you purchase a PC from Best Buy

Webroot was recommended to me by the staff at Best Buy after my computer crashed and they fixed it

Best Buy has an unique relationship with Webroot in that BB activates the product upon sale, where non-BB versions are not activated until installation
