Liked the sound of it better than the full size spark too which was blatty and wonky

I found that using it as a gain input to the distortion pedal results in some very warm sweet sounding crunch :-) very nice.

It's not transparent--you definitely hear the effect of the preamp on your tone--but overall it will enhance the sound of your guitar, amp, and the nuances in your playing.

This boost will prob help guys with lower end gear get a better sound, but if you've already got pro quality stuff I don't see too much of an advantage here.

The "EP" refers to "Echoplex", which was a (large) vintage delay unit with the added benefit that a lot of guitarists decided they loved the sound of the effect's preamp engaged irrespective of the delay.
