Just putting it in and hoping to do a clean install of Windows 10 wasn't possible until I initialized it in disk manager under my already existing version of Windows 10, before that it simply would not show up in my options to install to

You can ignore the heat spreader as from what I understand it doesn't make much of a temp difference but if you like the look, feel free to slap it on, but make sure to take a snapshot of your manufacturer sticker first for RMA and registration purposes.
