This is a great device.

While I have heard that these devices can be great for recording concerts and have heard some great recordings to back that claim up my review will be focusing on my main use which is podcasting.

Overall they made the H4N a really modern device, and match the DR-44WL on these areas

If you power this thing up to capture something impromptu, you'll either forget what you were going to say or the event will be over before the device is ready to use.

The H4N is a cool little device with lots of functions - especially considering the pricetag

On Directv it is located somewhere around channel 260.Summing up--the H4n is a brilliant little device with great sound and a deep set of features.

It probably is normally a good recording device, I just happened to get a bad one, so I sent it back and got a small Roland, which works very well and is a little simpler to use.

Handy recording device for lectures and presentations (which is what I use it for).

Once you find the uses that are appropriate for you (which you can do quickly) this device is as easy as using your TV.

I have been looking for good devices for boom mics,

Maybe in year 2030, the quality of the Zoom Portable Recording devices are on the same level as studios today

I'm going to stop now because there are too many reasons to like this device!

While that might be a slight exaggeration, it certainly has enough capabilities to make field or portable recording very easy in an extremely compact device

so (my grand piano) your sound source does not overwhelm the device and cause crackles in the playback.

I have used it as a backup device for feature films as well

This is great for ensuring your mics won't be easily damaged - but the device still suffers some handling noise; yet the noise seems to be much improved.

and they built a solid device that happened to have a bad part... which they provided more than exemplary service to amend.

This device uses a FAT32 file system which means 32GB is the maximum capacity it can recognize; amazon suggested I get a 64GB SD card, which the device was incapable of reading

They are using it to record lectures and it did a great job so far and they are so pleased with how easy and efficient is this device to use.

But I was quite surprised that the QTCs did not put this device to shame as I suspected they would.

I'm no audio expert but this device has been absolutely amazing

I have been extremely impressed and I do believe this unit rivals pro audio recording devices costing 10 times more

But the new preamps in the H4n are really what make it a better device than its predecessors.

As this is a rather expensive and very multi-functional electronic device, I could not tell if it was damaged in some way or not.

If you need a simple device, capable of high quality recording in different scenarios, use the H4N Pro, you'd not be disappointed

The target group that will enjoy this device most are people who record their rehearsals, especially using the built-in mics - also, people making composition sketches using the 4ch multitrack mode that allows overdubbing(!... pretty incredible for such a tiny box for $300)All the functions sit right on the edge of being "almost pro", yet it isn't completely pristine, not really top notch:If your priority is top-quality, the bigger recorders such as the Tascam HD-P2 or the Korg MR-1000 or an Oade Bros modded Fostex FR2 are definitely better choices

Quite simply, I had no idea this level of quality and flexibility of features was available in a portable device.

They really thought of everything when designing this!In short, I love this device, and since its general sturdiness seems to have improved since the original H4, I'm hoping mine lasts me for many years to come, or until something smaller or, somehow, better, comes along to replace it.
