Zoom H4N Handy Portable Digital Recorder - 2009 Version

    • I have used this recorder many times, its as good as they say it is
    • No timing errors
    • Still same slow bootup times depending on memory card
    • And a minor inconvenience is the time to boot up if you have a larger SD card
    • I installed it several times, each time getting a "no card" error.
    • No time is wasted to rewinde a tape.
    • The very first time I used the device at a performance, I was setting it up on a microphone stand in a balcony overlooking the church that we were singing in.
    • One time the studio was booked solid, I had a hot PSA to record, so the station manager put me into an eventual studio (now a catch all) with this little gem.
    • I was totally blown away by the sound quality this time
    • I had a terrible time figuring out how to get files into the thing, and how to get them into the multi-track mode and then how to start adding tracks
    • Works perfectly every time
    • They keep improving them and I keep upgrading, and it's been worth it every time.
    • I've used this gem several times now and haven't been disappointed yet
    • Date/Time is lost every time you change the batteries
    • Time will probably solve the problem.
    • The interface is fairly straightforward, and a novice like myself who is new to sound design and recording did not have a difficult time figuring out how to navigate the menus
    • It sounds like it lacks electricity and is not fully plugged in when in reality, it is and it sounds like my voice is electronic every time I speak into the thing
    • The only issue I have is the start-up time:
    • I think people who are not used to "old school" devices may have a hard time learning the interface
    • It took me quite a long time to get up the learning curve to just be able to get a recording off the H4N, split it into tracks, and dump onto a CD, but then again it’s designed for studio professionals so it’s understandable that it has so much functionality.
    • I can't think of any negatives other than to remind folks that any such recorder will have a horrible time with wind/moving-air noises unless you get a suitable windscreen for it.
    • Some of the features still don't quite feel "2016" modern times; if ZOOM could make the bootup time faster despite using any card size, make interface/navigation more smoother, it would be nice
    • I use it all the time and love it
    • The little hook broke off the first time I closed the thing
    • i like it cause its cheaper and useful... but i still a hard time to use my keyboard in recording
    • My M-audio 410 which works
