Just be careful that it does pick up excessive hand movement when recording; it's really sensitive.

You can pull the H1 out of its packaging and start recording great quality audio in less than one minute

Me and a friend use these for a weekly Podcast (BS and a Beer, you can find it on iTunes) and they have been great recording tools.

I have used other more advanced portable recording devices and find that this is right on par with them

The one he was using was a new H4 series, more than I needed, but the Zoom H1 recorder offered just what I wanted: quality stereo microphones with adjustable recording levels, stereo inputs for other microphones, a jack for listening, good battery life, micro-SD memory slot, and a 1/4-20 mount for a tripod or other stand

The big problem is, the system quality is also flimsy.1- The unit no longer reliably records, even after starting a file normally.2- Cards that were successfully formatted in the device suddenly become unrecognizable.3- The interface freezes and the battery must be pulled out to power down

I received the Zoom H1 Handy Portable Digital Record 10/29/2015, and I've used it about three times between then and today, 01/13/2016.

Excellent sound recording ability, simple to use, can save in a variety of formats and quality levels, compact

However, once you start recording it is wise to avoid contact with the recorder or you will end up with the static also recorded

I bought this to use for talking head videos with a lavalier mic because the recording preamp in the my Canon Vixia camcorder did not make good enough recording

It is so much better, and now I can buy a boom mic and plug it into this for even better recording

I use the Zoom H1 primarily for recording interviews with media subjects at conventions, and more often than not these interviews take place in a less than optimal recording situation, such as a crowded convention hall with a lot of peripheral background noise, or in a meeting room adjacent to other meeting rooms where other (loud) conversations are taking place

2- excellent recording quality with line in and way above average with the internal mics, 3) easy to use controls for non-menu driven flexibility

It works fine and records well, but don't leave the battery in it if you are not using it.

My only complaint is that in a loud live recording situation you've got to use the manual volume setting and set it pretty low (like 12 out of 100)

I got this so that I wouldn't have to suffer through the terrible recording I do on my phone

I am not very experienced with this type of hand held recorder, (read I've used one, and only for three days,) but the recording sounds very good, and it is easy enough for me to use

Recording in wave format with a good size card gives you several hours of good quality stereo recording.

The recording is very clear and it doesn't sound like you were recording in a box, like some other recorders do

For example, when recording the output from a CD player, the input sounds very distorted, even though the input level is at 1 - and there are barely any levels on the meter.

The sound quality it records is great for an amateur filmmaker or videographer, and although it's a little small and lightweight this makes it ideal for keeping with you and maybe recording random foley
