AKG K702 Reference Class Studio Headphones

    • Read the Amazon reviews, some have interesting uses for this unit including using it to front end inexpensive, but powerful solid state mono-block amps
    • Could be a good little headphone amp, solid state
    • Right now my phones are breaking in and I am checking in on them every few hours I have to give my amp a break every 3 hours or so
    • From my experience portable amps won't be able to drive these to the best potential you'll need a proper desktop amp with an output impedance of less than 1ohm imo to get these singing
    • The 701/702 are 63 ohm headphones and you simply have to have the right amp to drive them to get the most out of them
    • It has slightly recessed bass, it does not need an amp, but I really recommend
    • Peachtree - Music Bob, Integrated Headphone amp with
    • headphone amp easily capable of driving 8
    • Any one complaining about lack of bass, go buy yourself a decent DAC and amp
    • Luckily, I was prepared for this and had a FiiO E7 amp ready to go
    • The difference is night and day and it isn't because one amp is better than the other, they sound virtually identical with higher impedance headphones
    • pick up a affordable ( <$200) amp that works well with them (again, read up on what works), suits your tastes (amps change the sound and tone of headphones somewhat) and almost anyone will be happy with these assuming they dont expect them to be something they are not.
    • These head phones have almost no bass and require a decent amp to power them which will up the total cost by a bit
    • These headphone need a decent headphone amp and DAC to make it sound great
    • First off, as I said, they really need a good amp, particularly if you're inclined to use studio quality headphones while walking about your house, like I do (can't stand sitting still while listening to music)
    • Headphone jack on a pre-amp* Dedicated Headphone Amp, portable or
    • For some reason the sound the best on my least favorite amp, the soundblaster.
    • If you're looking for a great amp to go with these, try hunting down one of the original E12s
    • I use Triad Audio's Lisa III amp to enhance the sound quality.
    • This is not a total loss for me seeing as I knew this would happen in high quality headphones and invested in a rather cheap but effective amp (Fiio e09k).
    • You will have to have a capable powerful headphone amp to drive them.
    • I can't do that with my expensive speakers and amp!And speaking of the Marcin Wasilewski Trio, I could hear a string vibrating (perhaps on the bass?
    • I would recommend that these headphones be driven with a good headphone amp to attain maximum performance.
    • I plug them into a high end op-amp driven headphone amp (uses LM4562 in the output stage, which is the best dual op-amp available for audio and has the best drive capability) and these sound strident and two dimensional
    • When hooked up to said good receiver, these headphones shine brightly, and if you use a decent headphone amp, then you can enjoy a better quality of sound while on the go
    • Made USA************************************************PRE-AMPSFor some reason, my searches always bring me to looking for an inexpensive (transportable) pre-amp with multiple inputs and tone controls
    • i am just yearning to get a more powerful amp for this baby
    • My suggestion to anyone buying them, get a good headphone amp to do these things justice
    • Now I really started enjoying these headphones and wanted to see if I couldn't get a little more out of them with a good headphone amp
    • The AKG K702's along with a decent Dac/Amp set up (I'm really happy with the Schiit Magni/Modi) is a great intro audiophile set up.
    • When I was considering them I've read quite a bit about (1) how they are not worth the money without a decent headphone amp, (2) that their bass leaves a lot to desire, and (3) that they have an insanely long burn-in period
    • They require some decent amplification to get the most out of them, so use a decent headphone amp with portable audio players
    • When ran through a proper amp, these headphones deliver such a wide, full sound that it's about the closest you can get to having a surround sound strapped to your head
    • so if you have a bright (more treble than mids or bass) amp or dac, you the amp / dac is low quality, the treble could sound a bit harsh, however with a warm amp, lower quality music (as long as its mastered to not have white / colored noise) will sound great.comparing these to my last cans, the V-Moda
    • Sure you need as all good heaphones a amp to power them plus 200 hundreds hours for "burning" them
    • And no, just because you have an amp that will drive them loud enough to damage your hearing doesn't mean its the right amp for driving a 63 ohm load
    • Maybe if you had a portable amp
    • They need a good amp and dac to work, without a good amp and dac they will either be an unacceptably low volume, or have adequate volume but still sound muddy
    • Music will come alive only when it's partnered with a reasonable headphone amp that has the juice to drive it
    • That isn't to say it doesn't do a great job of presenting rock, pop, reggae and simpler folk as well as it is certainly pleasant, can't understand why some people complying about the bass as I find it enough and not over doing it like some other headphones
    • Not as neutral as I'd like, bright but not tinny
    • I am not expert but can say that the sound is exactly what i wanted - absolutely transparent reproduction of the source as crisp and clean as it can be
    • If you crank the volume up, you won't annoy anyone around you as the leakage is minimal
    • These really need a high quality amp to shine as they are power hungry.
    • I was looking for a mixing reference better than my M-Audio Studiophile headphones (which I've always liked).
