AKG K702 Reference Class Studio Headphones

    • These have plenty bass and if you add more, you just ruin the way music is supposed to be listened to.
    • These headphones have unmuddied clean bass and what I would call level frequency response
    • My impression is that AKG are really clear, nice headphones but if you like bass, you will definitely miss it
    • Mine is one such beast, and while turning on the option made the headphones sound "acceptable", or at least better than just the normal rear output jack had (now if you want "garbage", you should have heard that) it still failed to make any significant bass come out of these babies
    • I like nice tight bass.
    • The bass sounds great if I turn up the volume when a song begins, but once the mids and highs kick in, I have to turn down the volume because the mids and highs are too loud.
    • The bass is perfect
    • I would like more bass, but the sound is flat meaning it is closer to what the sound engineers intended it to sound like.
    • The Low frequency detail from the dt990's is superb, much more abundant bass than the K702's and more extension
    • The bass on these is too lacking to fully enjoy bass heavy music such as heavy metal or hip hop
    • I use the Sonys for daily listening and TV shows, mostly because I love the bass on those
    • While I wish the bass was a couple dB louder, the clarity is so enticing that its no big deal.
    • It took a number of days and some night time break-in for the bass to really sound good.
    • just not overwhelming bass (like the Dre's) but enough to enjoy the music the way its supposed to be heard and distortion free
    • I was originally afraid that the bass on these would be weak (seeing as they make a q701 which is essentially the same
    • If somebody prefer the bright sound of grado, or the more bass of the senn, it is all good headphone.
    • The opening track to the iconic album, hesitant plucked double bass building to a steady rhythm on bass, brushed drums and piano with Davis, Coltrane and Adderley trading solo riffs
    • Some reviews claim they don't have enough bass -
    • when i first get it, i love the clarity, mids and highs of the phone. coming from a grado 325i, the bass of the akg is really a far cry
    • One con is that there isn't enough bass
    • The bass was sufficient for my taste
    • I chose them over "Beats" for their flat response vs the exaggerated bass response of the "Beats" headphones line.
    • Bass sucks sadly even with an amplifier
    • Compared to my Monster Dr Dre headphones i own, the monsters had more bass.
    • Any music that depends on exaggerated or high bass will feel lacking with these headphones
    • The bass, once tinny and lacking, is now warm and just the right amount of boom
    • Unless you like your bass so heavy that it muddles everything else, these headphones are for you
    • just not overwhelming bass (like the Dre's) but enough to enjoy the music the way its supposed to be heard and distortion free
    • , I don't know if it is because the response is just very flat or because the bass is lacking
    • While this is a credit to the balance of the design I tend to love crashing double bass pedals.
    • I love its big tight bass, don't find it fatiguing, and often need the isolation of a closed back headphone,
    • The bass was more powerful but much less articulate, the higher frequencies dropped off sharply losing that feeling of space, and the sound stage all but vanished
    • The high's and mid range is great and adequate bass
    • Either way, my point is that the lighter bass is not a problem for me even though I like bass-heavy music
    • Unlikely as it seems, perhaps AKG has quality control issues, or a single QC guy that hates bass; I'm not sure.
    • They compare well to my HD600 offering a leaner sound with less pronounced but more accurate bass.
    • Upgraded (Personal opinion) from Sennheiser IvoryBeautiful sounds and way more real(?) feels less bass and such (i dont like bass on headphones much) also its way more comfortable and looks better too
    • They do have good bass
    • These headphones sound very treble heavy at first, however after about a week of heavy use they sound fantastic - bass sounds better while harsh treble is very reduced
    • I find that they don't exaggerate bass when it isn't present in the music.
    • The frequency response then sounds very well integrated and balanced - bass and treble are extended and natural-sounding, without over-emphasis, and the midrange makes instruments sound like themselves and distinct from each other.
    • The flat response helps for making sure your sounds have all the right details you hope to deliver in creating a sound asset without the lies and boosted bass
    • But I did find the bass a little light if well articulated, and after a couple of hours listening I started to feel a mild headache
    • The main thing I found repeated in various ways as far as feedback goes, was the lack of hard hitting bass.
    • Don't get me wrong either, bass is well represented right as it should
    • They do lack a powerful bass tone, and I sat right here and performed the typical bass hack that most everyone does to them.
    • , the bass is tight but not overwhelming (nor does it crack like the old 570), I can heard the vocal as the Senn 570.
    • Dismal bass performance (yes, I've broken them in for ages)I listened to these constantly for 4 months.
    • Granted this pair of headphones is not suited to all music genres coming across as thin and neutral for heavy metal or most loud bass heavy music, however it comes to a class of its own when most of one's repertoire is Jazz Vocals and Accoustic instrumentals (Guitar, Flute, Cello).
    • Listen, I love bass and that's why I also own v-moda crossfire shadow m-100's for casual listening
    • I have seen other people reviews saying they lack bass
    • Tight, accurate bass (no flab)
    • Thus a listener coming from a headphone whose response curve boosts the lows and dips the mids (as most consumer cans do) will hear a headphone with a flat and neutral response curve (like the AKG 701/702) as having a shallow bass and a strident upper mid range
    • Those don't have strong bass either, but it was more substantial and they were more balanced in the mids / highs.
    • So better sound stage, better bass and more detail
    • They have perfect bass, not that heavy bass like the
    • but with a thicker bass response), but honestly I love the bass on these.
    • like I want super bass, not at all, I like acoustic jazz, and I feel the bass too subdued
    • My K702 came today and after reading many reviews on LOW bass, mine seem to have more than enough (now made in China) fack the bass distorts the vocals and instruments (Playing Lorde's Royals), since im using a headphone amp with no bass control, ill need to figure this one out
    • On the second point, regarding the bass, I could not disagree more
    • As have been previously mentioned by many on the internet, initially the highs were very harsh and the bass seemed pretty weak, even after having fully anticipated that these weren't gunna be head rattlers
    • The bass is controlled, punchy and tight, and does not muddle the other frequencies
    • The bass that was once strong got loose and the high or treble was cracking, I was getting ear fatigue.
    • Overall, a neutral sounding can, with sparkling treble (which my be too bright for some--- and fatiguing) and tight, accurate bass.
    • Don't purchase these headphones if you are looking for overpowering bass, open cans are designed to eliminate that obnoxious "trapped in your head" sound that you get with closed cans
    • Bang for the buck, great mids and highs, bass could be better but not an issue.
    • Natural sound, not too boomy or heavy bass and not too bright
    • I love bass and out of the
    • Many people have complained that these headphones are lacking in bass, and I have to agree with that IF you are not using an amp that has decent bass boost
    • That isn't to say it doesn't do a great job of presenting rock, pop, reggae and simpler folk as well as it is certainly pleasant, can't understand why some people complying about the bass as I find it enough and not over doing it like some other headphones
    • Not as neutral as I'd like, bright but not tinny
    • I am not expert but can say that the sound is exactly what i wanted - absolutely transparent reproduction of the source as crisp and clean as it can be
    • If you crank the volume up, you won't annoy anyone around you as the leakage is minimal
    • These really need a high quality amp to shine as they are power hungry.
