Works really well on horizontal vent louvers

I found it is most stable in my car (BMW 330i) when I put it on the one of the lower horizontal vent louvers and then use the "kick stand" on the bottom frame of the vent

Be careful because if your GPS os too heavy it can mess up your vents louvers.

Insertion of the mounting brackets broke the lateral vent louver and the finished mount is not very stable vertically or laterally

Additionally the alligator clamp hooks may need to be filed down a millimeter (1/32 of an inch) so they can fit between the vents louvers, a good finger nail and third seconds will do nicely

Cheap plastic design that pinches the louver allows it to fall out and doesn't feel secure

i had also read in other reviews how the weight of the gps will close the vent louvers.

While I have not had any problems, I would be careful removing it from the vent louvers to avoid any damage

I suspect the plastic grips have worn, softened,and given way, so that the grips will not hold on to the vent louvers securely

The newer version has spring tensions on each clip to force the mount firmly away from the vent louver after attachment

My deduction is that during a long winter of having the mount exposed to the car heater on a daily basis (I drive 2 hours per day), the heat weakened the tension on the plastic clips enough so that the clips would no longer clasp to the vent louvers.

The unit does the job although it doesn't grip all the vent louvers of my Trail Blazer's vents.

Please make sure the vertical space between your vent louvers are greater than 3/8 inch (maybe 7/16 ").

Maybe if you have vents (louvers) that are not deep it might work

Just glad we didn't have to use this mount because of the long-term issues of being attached to vent louvers.
