Bought to replace a dead drive in my current PC

recently i had bought another to put into a build but as I tested it the drive was very noisy

Just a drive, sata, fast writing.

Leave the main hard drive on SATA 0 or you'll end up with a case drive activity light staying on solid all the time - but that's a Gigabyte issue, nothing to do with this optical drive.

I bought this DVD drive for my computer build and I read the reviews, saw some bad ones but the rest were mostly good, I had used a 10 year old PATA (not SATA) big external drive to rip and burn movies

had to trash the old drive - still many pieces of the CD left in it.

they work great and I have no complaints regarding these drives.

i pop it open using the manual eject hole and the drive belt that works the device was snapped and sitting on the disk tray.

This drive can support normal sized disks and those tiny, old camcorder disks that were used for very old camcorders back in the day after tapes were used.

Sometimes, even if my drives cannot read/rip a CD or some files on a CD, I can create an image file (iso, nrg if you use Nero, etc.) of that CD, burn it to a blank CD and then rip it to flac files

Like I mentioned, my 10 year old external drive could burn a DVD DL disc filled to the brim in about 15 minutes, now with this it took over an HOUR AND A HALF to burn a regular DVD R disc that had less than 4GB on it!!

In my decades of experience, CD/DVD drive have been the weakest links of computer systems and they all eventually die, maybe even sooner than hard drives if used a lot.

In fact, it took longer to figure out how to open the case than it did to get the new drive installed and working

My fault, not the drive

The drive burned about fifteen DL disks before it died.

It worked well during the original setup and also was used to rip about 60 movies to a hard drive.

As for cd ripping though, It has been nothing short of a great drive to use and I would highly recommend it if you are beginner or an experienced user of the art of CD ripping.

I'm apologizing more and more often to customers as PC repairs are harder when I recommend previously reliable stuff like WED Black Hard drives and now they have DOA rates approaching 8%

They were the top selling +R media on Amazon, thought new drive + new disks would equal success.

Every disc says "I/O error" and fails...

Asus doesn't have any drivers for it online, only some stupid E and burning software.
