Great features but did not offer the range I was expecting in our home.

I had some initial problems with the dual wan fail over/ fail back feature, but ASUS tech support quickly had it figured out and working properly

- On (i LOVE this feature, the router smooth and seamlessly connects devices to 2.4ghz or 5ghz depending on quality and congestion of signal and capability of device

Many, many useful features

There are 2 issues I have with this router that dropped my rating down to 4 stars:- While the adaptive QoS feature is better than most other QoS implementations, it still doesn't provide direct access to the FQ_codel engine, which is an extremely important function for any gaming router today.

The only reason we did not stay with the Linksys EA9500 is because the features were bland and it had to connect to Linksys for certain features to work but its range was bar non the best

Even better, by using the Smart Connect feature on the Asus, I only have one SSID now, and the router decides automatically whether its better to place a given device on the 2.4 or 5Ghz band, based on traffic, interference, etc

One of the best interfaces and features I've seen on a consumer wifi router.

Second issue, there are options to select within the firmware if you plan on gaming so that you have less lag and a faster connection; a great feature.

Easy setup, with easy to use software that comes with a robust feature set for any home router

Although this is a consumer router, it has a lot of excellent features that could be improved upon a little, but I do not know of ANY other router that has this many features, esp with internet protection that are nearly as easy to setup.5 star performance and features, 4 stars parental controls, 3 stars App.

I would suggest ensuring that your WLAN cards can handle 5Ghz bands, otherwise do not use the Smart Connect features which use Dual-Band to route the service as it will look sluggish

At the end of the day it doesn't matter how many great features something has if it just keeps boot looping

But once it made its basic WAN connections, the features of this router really shined

I disable the wireless feature on FIOS Wireless Router.

For an expensive router touting so many capabilities, it is lacking one very important feature I need and that is samba sharing so I can use it to backup my computers to an attached storage device.

You will probably not be able to eMail support right from this router with all the pertinent information included, so that feature is useless.

Despite being priced significantly higher than most competing routers I splurged on the ASUS RT-AC88U because I liked the features and the mobile application that allowed me to remotely manage the router

This router has the greatest setup features over many used in the past

Being able to run a VPN and the internet at the same time is a particularly nice feature

The features it has, along with the incredible range, plus it is REALLY easy to use compared to other routers... makes this router the best I’ve ever seen or heard about(provided it continues to work this way.

I opted to disable this feature as it was causing a lot of confusion for non-technical users in my home.

The Easy connect feature is nice as all devices see only one SSID regardless of band and the 3rd party add-ons analytics user interface and security were good

Overall, the router was stable and very fast but for some reason these two features stopped working

I've also read that the SmartConnect feature on these is unusable unless you are a serious expert with hours to spare (see the recent WireCutter review)

This beauty has so many features that can and will expand with my network

This has too many "features" making it a pain to setup and maintain.

Probing the unit with an SNMP tool shows that it does not respond to SNMP inquiries and looking around inside the unit (via telnet) shows no SNMP software is present (at least, nothing that I can find).So really, for $230 one gets a very basic wifi router with barebones IPv6 support and missing features.

Overall I highly recommend the GT-AC5300 if you really are going to use the awesome features it comes with, want the 8 LAN ports and better hardware specs

Another great feature was the AiProtection which I enabled

I really liked the feature that lets it auto-assign your devices to different bands.

The feature appears in the configuration but does not work at all.

Game Boost is the name they've given for their QoS controls and basically if you enable them in combination with any of the above other useful features, nothing can access the internet

The docs make it seem like this is a free feature, but it really isn’t

So basically you have to disable what ASUS advertises as the great feature of this modem

The best features are: the VPN, the compatiblity with OMG and the Wi-Fi wireless network for visitors.

A nice feature is the one or separate passwords for the 3 available bands.

I chose to buy another ASUS as I am familiar with its firmware and like the robust feature set such as VPN, Parental Controls, built in security etc

Mac user and one of the most important feature for me, was to be able to back-up my Mac with HDD connected to router, using Time Machine

Although I have not used them, the built in NAS / DNS services are nice features although some have questioned the security of ASUS file sharing, you would need someone with more knowledge to comment there.

This router looks amazing, I love the features, but sadly it didn't last very long.

Tons of great gaming features

I don't use any of the "gimmicky" features that could be buggy or impact performance such us;

It has a built in VPN that is a great feature if you are concerned about online security

ASUS has a nice usage stat feature that shows you what each of the connected devices are up to; I was able to see what my smart tv and google chromecast were up to,

The Smart Connect feature which auto-selects which of the three bands is best for each device has been optimized in firmware updates; basically since Dec 2015 it has been good.

No reliability problems, coverage is amazing, and its loaded with lots of useful and neat features

but it has unfortunately been one disappointment after the other despite of the awesome feature set and the great range that this router has

I did go in and tweak some of the setting because this router had some better features and performance.

Connectivity - A neat feature are the first two gaming ports that I use for my two gaming stations

This router is excellent, full of features and the built in 8 port switch is a very appealing feature to reduce # of devices in the room.

Very frustrating as I'm technology literate and have used an earlier model with similar firmware.

They will not give you a refund for the unit and will continue to send you a refurbished unit that is very likely to break as it seems these are hit or miss on hardware issues

Works as it is supposed to

The downside is that file transfers for my laptop to my multi homed NAS box (an 8 by Synology with network teaming) isn't as fast as with the Google OnHub that I pulled out to test this.

Using the smart connect rules, I was able to get the router to stabilize as long as I kept everything from connecting to the 5Ghz-1 (Lower) channel.

QoS and bandwidth manager works as it should

I'm really bummed as I was excited about this router and have had nothing but good things to say about ASUS from my experience with my old router

I asked for a warranty replacement instead because I have no other router, but they have to escalate it up and get it approved as that is not standard procedure

I've had high hopes of one day it may just start working as it should considering what I've paid for it

We have multiple clients attached, our labtop can finally work as it was designed
