I bought a pair of these to replace a pair of RT-AC66u's and the performance has been abysmal

The ASUS AC2900 Extreme is just that: Superb performance, excellent information, fast and connectivity is generally easy.

Called customer service twice and no success to improve performance.

It's a little on the pricey end of consumer routers but well worth it if you need strong wireless performance, plenty of throughput for a consumer model and a decent amount of wired ports

This is a router for superb performance, especially with multiple connections at once.

It is magnificent in terms of price, easy setup, performance, capacity, heck - you name it

After troubleshooting, updating the firmware, and restoring to factory defaults, the 2.4 band eventually started working (although with significant performance loss) but then the 5GHz SSID stopped broadcasting entirely

and at one point for about 30 minutes achieved really good performance (50 MB/s) only to have performance tank without me changing anything with the fixes in place the next day

I wanted to replace my Apple Airport Extreme, which had a rock solid performance, with something newer since Apple discontinued its wireless router line

After making these changes, I have noticed no downside in the router's otherwise stellar performance.

This router is a dream to setup, performance is fantastic and the GUI interface is the best in the industry

In a connected home with NEST and RING products which require a 2.4GHz band, I would expect better performance in this band than what we had from the AC3200

Sad that an old G Linksys is staying connected more consistantly and showing better performance than this router.

But, forgetting what I know and just using the default settings resulted in a great performance on my local area network by all devices and my (yuk) satellite internet access service greatly improved, though I do not claim to yet know why.

The 5 gig band does hold on to its connected devices but suffers from poor performance.

Wireless performance is solid

After reading all of the review it truly does have optimal performance.

Very frustrating as I'm technology literate and have used an earlier model with similar firmware.

They will not give you a refund for the unit and will continue to send you a refurbished unit that is very likely to break as it seems these are hit or miss on hardware issues

Works as it is supposed to

The downside is that file transfers for my laptop to my multi homed NAS box (an 8 by Synology with network teaming) isn't as fast as with the Google OnHub that I pulled out to test this.

Using the smart connect rules, I was able to get the router to stabilize as long as I kept everything from connecting to the 5Ghz-1 (Lower) channel.

QoS and bandwidth manager works as it should

I'm really bummed as I was excited about this router and have had nothing but good things to say about ASUS from my experience with my old router

I asked for a warranty replacement instead because I have no other router, but they have to escalate it up and get it approved as that is not standard procedure

I've had high hopes of one day it may just start working as it should considering what I've paid for it

We have multiple clients attached, our labtop can finally work as it was designed
